About

Holistic Design

A rich mix of skills and experience gives me the perfect platform to help across multiple projects.
I'm a Multidisciplinary Designer & Creative Technologist. My role blends creativity, technology, and strategy and involves making informed decisions based on insights from research. These decisions benefit the entire pipeline from brand and marketing, through production and deployment, to evaluation.

My experience spans visual design, usability, function, testing, and analysis. This allows me to help you create better products, refine your services and boost impact. I bridge the gap between design and product, resulting in measurable improvements for both the businesses I work for and their customers.
I combine Design Thinking and The Double Diamond approach to guide projects from early questions through to clear, practical outcomes.

My Process

To keep projects on track, it’s important to start with clear goals and a structured plan. This is an outline of the process and steps I follow to ensure your project is successful.
I cover multiple aspects of design projects, but can provide specialist skills on individual elements as required.
Discovery

Understanding the requirements

I'll start with your objectives before developing a brief. I’ll review your goals, audience, and constraints. I'll review your existing materials and assess what works and what doesn't, and where more insights may be required. This can expose gaps and fresh opportunities for your benefit.

Strategy

Shaping the project

Rather than jumping straight into design, I’ll outline the options. This might mean suggesting alternatives, phasing the project, or refining what’s realistic within the budget. The aim is to develop an achievable plan and a defined scope before work begins.

Curation

Collating materials

Good design depends on appropriate content: text, data, and media. I can analyse the source information and help with content structure, but I also work with skilled specialists where required to ensure your content is clear, relevant, and matches the project outline.

Design

Concepts and ideation

I focus on loosely exploring ideas before committing to solutions. I help to define the problem clearly, generate practical options, test assumptions early, and gradually narrow thinking toward concepts that are useful, feasible, and realistic for the budget and goals.

Prototyping

Testing and modifying

Prototyping turns ideas into something tangible that can be explored, shared, and tested. I create appropriate prototypes to explore behaviour, structure, and intent, helping to learn quickly, reduce risk, and make informed decisions before moving into full production.

Production

Product development

Once prototypes are tested, I manage the production — whether that’s building a website, overseeing app development, preparing documentation, or supplying supporting assets. The technical details are taken care of, so everything proceeds smoothly.

Evaluation

Usability testing

I evaluate how well the product performs in real use. I plan and run usability testing to identify issues, validate the design, and gather clear evidence, so improvements can be prioritised before launch or fed into future iterations.

Post Launch

Ongoing support

Projects don’t end at delivery. I can provide ongoing management, updates, or further design support. Some clients prefer ad-hoc work, while others choose a retainer for predictable costs and priority attention.

It has been a joy to work with Ric. The quality of the festival’s website, despite a tight deadline, is excellent. I would highly recommend!
